TEAM WANG STANDARD CONCEPT SPACE
TEAM WANG “STANDARD” CONCEPT SPACE, which are taking place in Water Square at the MixC in Shenzhen, have adopted the concept of Chinese chess and games to highlight the core theme of the collection. Elements of Chinese chess and the Great Wall have been integrated into the overall design, and a bird’s-eye view of the venue reveals the distinct structure of a chessboard.
Inspired by the Great Wall, steel-wire meshes have been used to create an encircling hollow-out outer wall while light-coloured pumices are used for the columns and bastions. The combination of concreteness and abstractness places the structure between tangibility and intangibility.
The staggering chessboards resemble the game of life and the self that is deciding in the parallel universe, which reflects that “Life has no standard answers”, the emphasis of Cookies 3. Co-founder & CEO of TEAM WANG design - Henry Cheung says: “Life is like a chess game: you’re in charge of the play and there’s no right or wrong for every step taken. How you enjoy the process and create your own history are more important than the result.”
The six installation arts inside are: “soldier”, “pawn”, “horse”, “canon”, “chariot” and “general” which are presented by TEAM WANG’s classic INVISIBLE MAN. The keyword “STANDARD”, using barre grey granite, may be seen along the “Chu River and Han Border” that divides opposing sides. TEAM WANG “STANDARD” CONCEPT SPACE hopes to convey the positive spiritual power of “KNOW YOURSELF, MAKE YOUR OWN HISTORY”, so every visiting Official Member may create their own history.
Jackson Wang, the designer and creative director of TEAM WANG design, remarks: “Our keyword for Cookies 3 is ‘Standard’. It’s hoped that when people see it, they can ask themselves: ‘Hey, what’s my standard of happiness? What exactly do I love?’ Everyone has their own standard of happiness. What’s yours?” Happiness is an abstract concept and everyone defines it differently – WHAT’S YOUR STANDARD OF HAPPINESS?
